Lafayette Elementary School
The new Lafayette Elementary School opened for students at the start of the 2020 academic year. Our work on the project, however, began more than two years earlier. In May 2018, when partnered with the design team and the Lafayette County School District to evaluate current enrollment and campus space to determine the most pressing needs. ICM also prepared cost analysis for the master plan options, which allowed the team to prioritize those needs with the available funds.
Once a plan was established, our team worked with the design team to create a master plan for the new Lafayette County Elementary School. One of this project's most significant challenges was its urgent timeline. Lafayette County was experiencing immense growth, and this new school had be ready for the start of the 2020 school year. That meant there was no time for redesign or re-bidding if the project came in over budget. At the same time, the school had to include as many classrooms as possible to be prepared for the future.
To ensure the project met its goals and the owners got the most out of their budget, the ICM team:
Provided cost analysis for each design concept, which allowed the team to make informed decisions at every step in the design phase.
Prepared a master schedule for design and construction.
Worked with the design team to release an early site package that allowed construction to start while the design was finalized.
Managed the bid process from start to finish, dividing the project into 12 trade packages and developing the scope of work for each trade contractor. On bid day, the project team received 32 bids, and the project was 0.79% under budget.
